How To Get Silly Putty Out Of Hair
Removing Silly Putty from Hair
Tip: Removing Hardened Silly Putty in Our Dog's Fur
July 6, 2013
I used warm water on a wet rag. I put some Dawn dish soap on it and poured rubbing alcohol on the rag too. I rubbed the Silly Putty; (which was hardened) out in a few minutes. It worked great! The dog didn't complain a bit either.
Source: I used information from this site; and modified the information, making a new "recipe" to see what would happen. It worked great with no harsh toxic chemicals.

My granddaughter put Flarp Putty in her hair. How can we remove it safely without pulling her hair out? It's all the way to the scalp.

I know that you can remove gum from hair with peanut butter so you might try that. I don't know if it will work or not, but it's worth a try.

We just got back from a b-day party and my daughter had the flarp stuck in her hair. We initially tried olive oil, then powder to try and dry it, but it was still not coming out.
Ii poured organic apple cider on it, and it completely dissolved it! Hope this helps.

Hmmm. I put my son in the bath tub and washed his hair with shampoo. The Flarp came right out. No pain. no whining.

Apple cider vinegar or just apple cider?
February 4, 2018 0 found this helpful
I do not usually post but I feel this might be helpful for others,
my 6yr old got some putty stuck in her hair as well. it took some steps to get it out..
had to first separate it from the rest of her hair.. I tried apple cider vinegar in a Ziploc bag zip-tied around the hair.. had her lay in bed and let it soak while she played her video games for an hour or so.. then combed it out, carefully pulling with my fingers and the comb... then brushed it all out... fully washed it.. brushed it again.. and DONE
the apple cider vinegar softened the putty just enough to easily comb it completely out.

My granddaughter went to sleep with silly putty and woke up with it melted to her eyebrow and the top of her hair. Her hair is super thick and longer that her waistline and was in a braid. We used rubbing alcohol wipes for acne on her eyebrow . Keeping her eyes closed tight to make sure the wipes did not touch her eye.
It came out with a little elbow grease. We then poured rubbing alcohol on her hair and started working our way through it. It came out with a little soaking , separating, finger combing and a little patience, we got it out.

Normally I would say peanut butter but the dog would be licking it off and you don't want the silly putty ingested. I would strongly advise you to try baby oil.. It should basically work the same way.
* (If I didn't like somebody, I would give their kids silly putty for Christmas, birthday or any excuse I could think of) my bad...

Mayonaise or mineral oil. I fear baby oil might hurt the animal.

Baby oil & mineral oil are basically the same thing. Use any vegetable oil. (ie: corn oil, olive, soybean, etc.)

You can use peanut butter and then take a rag and wipe it out after you work it in real good or you can use Skin So Soft in the green bottle, regular secnt and work it in real good and wipe out,it will also kill flease and smell good

You more than likely have gotten the silly putty out by now. But for future reference to anyone who has this happen. I would use a good hair conditioner to remove the silly putty. Put on a good amount and work it around in the area making sure that it is completely covered. Let it sit for a few miutes. It will not just roll off, but with a little paitence you can remove it. If it were in my dogs hair, I might consider just cutting it out. It will grow back. But for the paws this should be fine.

DeSolvIt can be found in WalMart for this silly putty dilemma and MANY others; I discovered it years ago when (unbeknownst to me) my 4 yr old had lipstick in her pocket--clothes went thru washer AND dryer...Dry Cleaner recommended "pitch the clothes". Tried this biodegradable product: used yrs ago to clean up the Valdez oil spill withOUT hurting environment! Removes gum, grease, etc w/o harsh chemical results. (will need to wash, rinse product out of hair/fabric, etc.)

I used hand sanitizer and a fine tooth comb. it came off almost instantly. of course, if it is in a place where they can look, you might want to wash it off when you are done. I didn't feel any residue, but I wouldn't take a chance.

Try some peanut butter or cooking oil. rub it on the hair and then comb until it combs off. Good luck!

I got (super-duper sticky) scar putty in my hair from my Halloween costume and actually found the putty after my shower! I got it out instantly with real mayonnaise and re-washed my hair. :)

I just got home from work to discover my 5 year old hiding because she had put putty in her hair because she wanted to see how it looked in the mirror. Tried the peanut butter, the baby oil and then the cider vinegar. But none of them really worked very well. So I put a towel over her eyes - had her tilt her head back and put baking soda on the putty and then the cider vinegar. It bubbled up and when it stopped I was able to rub the putty out of her hair, then followed it up with shampoo and repeated about 3 times before all of it was gone. Her hair falls well below her shoulders so I was happy to get it out so quickly. It didn't hurt her skin at all and she was happy that I was able to take care of it so quickly.
